Meet the Principal

Mr. Matthew Gifford

Mr. Gifford speaks to students

I am a 1997 graduate from Clarkston High School. I went on to attend Michigan State University in pursuit of a finance degree. After completing a capital planning internship with DaimlerChrysler I decided I wanted to impact the lives of children. I transferred to Oakland University and finished my teaching certification in May of 2003. I did my student teaching at Clarkston Elementary in a third grade classroom. I was hired to teach third grade by Clarkston Schools at Springfield Plains following my graduation from OU. The following year I was moved to fourth grade at SPE where I taught until August of 2015, when I then became the principal of the school.

In June of 2008 I completed my masters degree in Reading and Language Arts with a Literacy Specialist endorsement and in June of 2017 I earned my Educational Specialist in Educational Leadership degree. Both degrees are from Oakland University. I currently reside in Clarkston, Michigan with my beautiful wife Kelly, three sons; Ryan, Will and Zack, along with our Weimaraner, Sky.
